First quilt

Sherwood was rifling through our old pictures today. He found this picture from back in 1982. This is the first quilt I ever made! The pattern is the "LOG CABIN" from Quilt in a Day. I made it when we had our first apartment together and vividly remember making it!

It took me forever to pick my material, and I ended up picking calico prints in my favorite peach and rust colors. The quilt was hand tied and I remember feeling quite proud when I finished it! I made it on my first sewing machine, a Kenmore from Sears that I wish I still owned!

I am sure that the ugly face I am making is because Sherwood took my picture when I didn't want him too!

Valentine's Day Mood

I put all my Valentine's "stuff" up this morning! Really been thinking alot about that these last few days, as we lost a relative, and another is very ill! Just shows how precious life is and how we must live it to the fullest---never take our loved ones for granted!

Making some goodies for a care package for Melyssa:
Plus, I embroidered a few things for my friend, Susan.

All in all, another productive, lovely day!

Loot

Excited to go to The Road To California Quilt Show!
Made myself a new purse just for the occasion:

Theresa picked me up at 0830 and we went non stop until 1730. I bought way too much! But I am so glad I did.
Patterns:
Fabric:
Bauble and doodads:
And the biggest purchase was the four die cuts we bought:
Plus Aunt Bunnie, Theresa and I split a 3 pack of leaders so that we each have one for our batting poles on our Gracie Frame.

I was itching to sew, so when I got home, I whipped out an case for my earphones.

Last, but not least....my hubby took me to dinner at my favorite Italian Restaurant.

All in all, a great day!!!

Saturday Stuff

Who knew that these rice warmer bags would be so popular? I made close to 85 over the last couple of months. Everyone on dayshift got one for Christmas--it was the gift that was MOST appreciated out of all the gifts we've given if the "thank yous" were any indication.

I also have alot of USC fans as family/friends/peers so many of those were made and fought over--so I made more. And my friend Theresa's hubby and son are Superman fans, so they got one too!

My Darkel is leaving for a 6 month deployment on January 17th. I embroidered his towels for the ship:

Also finished the quilt top for my mom. It's just beautiful if I do say so myself--it's going on the frame tomorrow1 Pics will follow.

My grandmother is terminally ill (hospice-she is 97) and we gathered today at the house with my mom.
Did some grocery shopping for my mom and stopped by this quilt store by my mom's house in Murietta:

Juli and I saw this wonderful quilt:
We loved it so much we are thinking about taking the class together!...you know....'cuz i don't have enough projects to finish......too many quilts...so little time!

My Boss Turns 50

Yes, It's happening to quite a few of us these last 2 years. Sherri is a fantastic baker -she brings treats into the unit, and they are devoured. We tease her that she owned her own bakery in a previous life. So it was only fitting that Theresa and I make her a quilt that was full of recipes and aprons, and cherries...

Super Saturday

I always feel like it's SUPER when I can have to house to myself and play my SIRIUS 70, 80 and 90's music and sing along while sewing and quilting to my hearts content. I made the following things today:

Embroidered a blanket and soft toy for one of Sherwood's friend's new baby boy:

Made a few more USC rice bag warmers (for boo-boos). The first one was for my relative who is battling cancer. He used to play football for USC. One is also for my sister (who is a CRAZY USC fan). She claims to have "lost" the first one I made for her. One is for my friend, Sandy who is a USC alumni. And the rest...who knows.....

And, for me, I made a trash can for my threads and such for my portable sewing table:

Now I am looking through my million patterns to start a project for someone specials bday this month--picture to follow!

Wax on.....Wax off

I had the greatest time with my friend Susan last night. She took me for an "adventure"! We went to a candlemaking class at the Spectrum and made our custom candles with fancy doo-dads on it! This was a birthday surprise!

I made my candle for my sister, Jana. Sometimes (most times) it's easier for me to pick out colors and trinkets for others than it is for myself. I had them add a GARDENIA scent, which is strong and yummy....that is, if you happen to like gardenia!

We ate at RUBY's Diner while our candles were setting and of course...talk, talk, talk.....I loved reconnecting and catching up.

Isn't it nice to have a friend that leaves you better than you were when you first started out?

Thanks, Susan!
