"And Aubrey Was Her Name...."

Yes an old song from the band, BREAD!

I could never think of a name for my oldest machine. So I took the advise of Bonnie Hunter from Quiltville and looked up all the favorites for the year my machine was made, 1953! The name that struck me was the Academy Award Winning actress for that year, Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday!

I didn't LOVE the name Audrey, but then remembered the song with Aubrey as the main character, and I love the name Aubrey!

So, I took her out, dusted her off, re-read the instruction book, and had a great day sewing with her!

My husband will probably have something to say about me spreading my sewing stuff up in yet another room (since I have a gigantic screwing studio of my own), but the setup was perfect for a marathon TV viewing while sewing and ironing and cutting!

I watched the movie, Water for Elephants with Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon-good movie!

 

 

Then I watched this weeks episode of Project Runway All Stars:

 

I love this setup for the next 2 days, then I will pack up and keep this room for rare sewing marathons!

Working on three projects at this time!

1. My Quilt of Valor (for a yet to be named vet-there are 4 vets/military family members-whom I plan on making quilt of valor for)

 

2. Tshirt quilt for someone special:

3. Anaheim Ducks Quilt for my nephew's birthday!

4 patches...unresolved

Put together some 4 patches and realized quickly that even though I cut and sewed ALOT of "twosies", clearly I did not cut enough variety.....so back to the scraps for more reds and creams....probably have enough for 2 "Quilts of Valor" quilts.....yah.....

 

Also, started an on nephew's "Anaheim Ducks" quilt and my bffs Tshirt quilt!

Saturday

Started off with a hearty breakfast at Zov's with my hubby!

Then worked all day at cutting and pinning the four patches together!

 

 

Tomorrow after work starts the best part-chain piecing the four patches together!

Then....on the the half square blocks-navy and cream!

The best part-all fabric was from my stash....since I didn't have that many cream fabrics, I "COFFEE DYED" my whites. 25 minutes in coffee, rinsed dried and ironed!

Also took a few minutes to make a pillowcase for my darling daughter! Our saying to each other is, "I love you, deeply"-when she was in kindergarten she would get out of the car in the morning,run a ways, then turn around and give me the I love you sign and then put her hands up on her head to represent antlers! She still does this, and I LOVE IT! So every chance we get we send defers to each other!

This material screamed out to me to make Amanda a pillowcase:

 

 

I will send it tomorrow in her latest care package!

WAYWO this week

I was supposed to attend the quilt show in Pomona today with a couple of quilting buddies, but I was feeling under the weather this morning, with a headache and very sore feet (my plantar fasciitis acting up).

Felt much better after noon, and started ruffling through my immense pattern collection!

Starting a "Quilts of Valor" quilt. I decided to use the "Chutes and Ladders" quilt pattern from Annie's for this pattern! I sewed while watching "QuiltCam" from Quiltville, taped on March 2, 2016. I have yet to see this quilt cam live, but try to watch while sewing every time I can! Sometimes I even watch reruns just because it is so darn fun to have someone speaking quilt as you sew! I usually get a lot done!

 

These are 2 1/2 inch strips sewn together and tomorrow I will be making a lot of four patches!

 

I also must finish this table runner from a lot if St. Patrick's Day fabric scraps.

As you can see the top is finished, I just have to pick a backing and quilt it together! And I really would like to do this tomorrow, as time is running out for this year's St. Pat's decorations----then on to Easter,Spring, and April brays!

 

I also bought this beautiful fabric that screamed out my mom's name for a quilt:

 

I don't have a particular pattern in mind, but I am looking for a jelly roll pattern of some sort!

Owl quilt....for Delilah

I had no idea whoo this quilt was going to be for when I made it! I just got material gifted to me! Plus I wanted to try this pattern!

So it's been sitting in my "waiting to be quilted" pile for the last year!

My sister, Jenn happened to mention that her granddaughter, Delilah, LOVES owls! So that was a great reason for me to get motivated quilting it!

Testing, testing....1...2

Tested AGAIN the "One Hour Quilt" pattern...still not satisfied with the flimsy result!

I tried two different methods this time. One with the the exterior fused with "Heat N Bond Ultra Hold" and another fabric layer (when fused used as exterior), then a layered with batting as instructions say.The second method was exterior fabric, temporary basting spray, and a layer of "TIMTEX" instead of batting, and then instructions the same as pattern

 

 

The results:

The winner without a doubt is TIMTEX! The sturdiness is exactly what I wanted in a basket---a basket not so easy to flop!

And I am gifting it to my bff, although we did not get together today as planned!

The other basket is mine and I have made a wise decision to put all my "personal journals" in them in an attempt to stay more organized and save time! I swear I spend half my time looking for these journals as they hold all my favorite patterns (both quilting and knitting) in them, and I am forever searching for them!

 

I also finished #20 pineapple block (out of 36) for my "Anniversary Quilt":

 

I also FINISHED! the scarf for Amanda (Chicago is COLD!!!):

 

 

 

I have been knitting since 1982, and only recently read an article that says for COLD weather, the scarf should be as long as the person is tall, so this scarf is 64"-----another great thing about being in California is that the scarf is basically an accessory, not essential to keep you warm!

But having been to Chicago in the winter, I can attest to the fact that you have a VERY hard time keeping warm.....and then the wind.....oy!

 

A care package will be going out soon....to my baby!

She also got her care package today, and sent me a pic to thank me!

 

 

 

 

I love and miss her so much every day (she makes me laugh and smile like no other!)
